Vehicles in German City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers stated they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative said the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
