'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The man played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She said Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
